TrainingOur PreInitiate training is given in two phases. The first phase, Seeker Training, is an overview and introduction to the theory and practice of Wicca. Over the course of about three months, Seekers are introduced to the ethical and theological underpinnings of Wicca, and are included in the Full Moon Rites and Sabbat Rites of the Circle. Basic ritual form and function as well as the use of tools and magick are explained. Seekers are expected to do research and write papers on Deity, Sabbats and ethics. Book discussions are part of the curriculum, as are bimonthly “Magick Labs,” in which energy work and other practical experiences are taught. (See Seeker syllabus below.) At the end of the Seeker Training period, students can either: (1) walk away from Shades of Gray Circle knowing more about the religion of Wicca, and practice as a solitary Wiccan or join another group; or (2) take the Dedicant oath to complete their studies for the traditional ‘year and a day.’ Dedicants will continue to expand their participation in Esbat and Sabbat rites, and the expectation of growth and rigor increases. Examination of academic knowledge as well as ritual/experiential competence completes the Dedicant Training phase. (See Dedicant syllabus below.) At the end of the Dedicant Training, First Degree Initiation may or may not be conferred. Membership in Shades of Gray Circle of Friends may or may not be offered. Both of these are at the discretion of the High Priest, High Priestess, and the Court of Elders. |
